The ARLIS/NA Texas-Mexico Chapter and 2023 Conference Planning Advisory Committee officially invite the members, friends, and affiliates of the Art Libraries Society of North America to attend its 51st annual conference from April 18-21, 2023 in Mexico City, Mexico.
THE WORLD LOVES MEXICO CITY!
In the past decade, Mexico City has been consistently named one of the top—if not the premier—travel and cultural destinations in the world (New York Times #1 for 2016; World Design Capital for 2018—the only city in the Americas to ever receive that title; National Geographic #1 for 2019); the cover feature of the Fall 2019 issue of Aperture magazine; and why Mexico City should be at the top of your bucket list according to Paste magazine. A financial and cultural center of North America, Mexico City offers a unique opportunity for the society to generate knowledge and cultivate connections with art information professionals in the region.
ARLIS/NA WILL LOVE MEXICO CITY, TOO!
This inaugural occasion will build upon successful Mexico-sited programming of the recent past: the five-day 2011 ARLIS/NA International Relations Committee Study Tour that was conducted in Mexico City in conjunction with IFLA Arts; the ARLIS/NA Texas-Mexico Chapter 2008 meeting convened in Guadalajara in conjunction with the International Book Fair (FIL); and that same chapter’s four-day 2016 chapter meeting in Mexico City that drew attendees from 4 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces, as well as those in Mexico, and culminated in a future-focused roundtable discussion between ARLIS/TXMX members and representatives from 7 Mexican institutions.

The cultural sites and educational institutions of the largest city in North America are plentiful. Of the more than 250 museums in the city, most of the following institutions are located in two scenic and walkable central zones (the Historic Center and Polanco/Chapultepec Park) and will be offered as organized tours or for attendees to visit on their own:

The Conference Planning Advisory Committee is exploring centrally located institutions among those listed above for conference events in addition to tours.
Mexico City also has a thriving contemporary art and gallery scene supporting young and emerging artists that features installation art utilizing the city’s unique spaces such as the Laboratorio Arte Alameda and Ex Teresa Arte Actual, as well as artists on exchange from other countries.
AMAZING WEATHER, CENTRAL LOCATION, AND SO AFFORDABLE!
Mexico City guarantees an affordable conference experience. In addition to a moderate spring climate in April, attendees coming from the U.S., Canada, and Europe will be pleasantly surprised by the inexpensive cost of transit, lodging, meals, and other incidental expenses. Mexico City is easily and affordably accessible by air from all major U.S., Canadian, and European cities, with its airport conveniently located just ten kilometers/six miles from the conference hotel. It has a robust taxi network supplemented by popular ride-sharing platforms ($7USD Uber ride from airport to hotel). WiFi is abundant and most telecommunication companies offer affordable coverage options for both voice and data.

Verschillende zeer gewaardeerde OKBN-collega’s zullen de komende tijd met pensioen gaan. Naast de algemene zaken zoals bespreking van het jaarverslag en de financiën, reserveren we in deze ALV daarom extra tijd om deze bijna-gepensioneerden in het zonnetje te zetten en samen terug te kijken op de fijne samenwerking.
Hiernaast wil het bestuur van het OKBN deze ALV graag aangrijpen om samen met jullie, onze leden, een visie te ontwikkelen op de toekomst. Dit zullen we doen tijdens een interactieve brainstormsessie.
Vragen die daarbij aan de orde kunnen komen zijn o.a.: wat zouden de speerpunten van het OKBN moeten zijn de komende jaren? Waar hebben de OKBN-leden behoefte aan? Wat is het bestaansrecht van het OKBN en hoe kunnen we ons verder ontwikkelen?
Om ons voor te bereiden op de brainstorm zullen we jullie binnenkort een korte enquête sturen met vragen over jullie visie op het OKBN.
We hopen – nu zelfs nog meer dan andere jaren – op een grote opkomst!

The international network of art libraries will come together for the 9th time to hold its bi-annual conference, this year at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (Central Institute for Art History) in Munich, Germany. The conference is both a meeting of the partner libraries joining the Art Discovery Group Catalogue project and an occasion to mark the 10th anniversary of the Future of Art Bibliography Initiative (FAB) as an instructive and aspirational lens through which to view many of the major community-based projects that have developed in our domain over the past decade. It will examine
projects individually and collectively, in both practical and conceptual terms, and consider topics of collaboration, inclusivity, and diversity of art information.
Call for Papers
The goal of the conference is to bring together information specialists, librarians, publishers, students and scholars in the fields of art, architecture, and visual culture to discuss the progress of the Art Discovery Group Catalogue and recent developments that are shaping, guiding, and challenging the art information profession. The program seeks to cover a broad spectrum of topics including but not limited to:
• resource sharing and collective collecting
• collaborative catalogs
• linked open data
• digitization and IIIF
• diversity in resource building
• web archiving
• image-based collection searching
• art bibliography as a framework
• the future of art information
Abstracts should describe original, unpublished work. The proposals for papers, lightning talks, or panels are due on June 1, 2022. You must include the title plus a 500 word abstract (no images), to give a brief description of the presentation. You will be notified within one month regarding the acceptance of your proposal. The final presentations and the abstracts will be made available on the Artdiscovery.net website after the conference. Partial travel support may be available. The conference is planned to take place in-person in Munich; a switch to a virtual conference will happen if necessary.

De afgelopen twee jaar zijn we anders gaan werken onder invloed van de beperkingen die de COVID 19-pandemie ons oplegde. Minder plaatsgebonden, meer digitaal… (Kunst)bibliotheken hebben zich moeten aanpassen aan een nieuwe werkelijkheid. Bepaalde ontwikkelingen zijn in een stroomversnelling gekomen, nieuwe mogelijkheden zijn verkend. Welke lessen hebben we geleerd en kunnen we ook in het post-coronatijdperk inzetten?
Het OKBN heeft afgelopen najaar besloten om het beste, meest innovatieve project of idee in coronatijd te waarderen met de OKBN-innovatieprijs. De inzendingen zijn te vinden op deze pagina, waar ook de mogelijkheid bestaat om je stem uit te brengen op jouw favoriete kandidaat. De publieksstemmen worden meegewogen in het eindoordeel van de jury, die bestaat uit: Geert-Jan Koot, voormalig hoofd van de Rijksmuseum Research Library en conservator Bibliotheekcollecties bij het Rijksmuseum (voorzitter), Frank Huysmans, bijzonder hoogleraar Informatiesamenleving, in het bijzonder de transformatie van openbare bibliotheken (bijzondere leerstoel vanwege de KB | Nationale Bibliotheek) aan de UVA, en Marg van den Burgh, Programmamanager Metamorfoze bij de KB | Nationale Bibliotheek.
De OKBN Voorjaarsbijeenkomst staat in het teken van deze innovaties in (kunst)bibliotheken. Saskia Scheltjens, afdelingshoofd Research Services van het Rijksmuseum, zal haar licht laten schijnen over twee jaar Corona-beperkingen en de gevolgen daarvan voor het (kunst)bibliotheekvak. Vervolgens zullen de drie kanshebbers op de innovatieprijs hun inzending toelichten, waarbij er ruimte is voor vragen. We sluiten af met de uitreiking van de OKBN Innovatieprijs uit handen van de juryvoorzitter.
Na afloop kunnen we napraten onder het genot van een borrel. We hopen jullie te mogen verwelkomen op deze OKBN Voorjaarsbijeenkomst.
